| Dollar Spot | Brown spots a few inches in diameter scattered in the lawn. | Fungicide application |
| Red Thread | Reddish tint on grass resulting from disease. | Lawn Fungus Control |
| Snow Mold | Gray-white discoloration on lawn due to prolonged snow cover. | Rake out mold to allow lawn to dry / fertilize |
| Rust | A disease that causes reddish discolorations on grass and can cause greater damage in shadier lawns. | Fertilization is the best solution for rust. |

| White Grubs | Large, irregular shaped brown patches form in lawn in the late summer. Roots are eaten away and turf peels back like carpet. | Merit® Grub Control in June or early July to prevent grub damage. Dylox® Grub Control in late summer to kill existing grubs. Heavy watering is needed in both cases to be effective. |
| Chinch Bugs | Irregular brown discolorations, grass is cut and chewed at ground level. | Surface Insect Control, such as Ortho Max |
| Sod Web Worm | Starting in mid-Spring brown patches appear in lawn, up to a foot wide. Grass is cut at ground level. | Surface Insect Control |
| Bill Bug | Grub-like insect that eat at grass roots below the surface of the lawn. First signs appear in mid-June. | Merit® or Dylox® |
